Choosing
your wedding car
The
first and most important rule is never book a car from a
brochure, as photographs can often be deceptive. Insist on
seeing the car so that you can satisfy yourself as to its
condition and cleanliness, both inside and out. If a company
does not allow unrestricted viewing of their cars, do not deal
with them.
When
you inspect the cars you should always bear in mind that the
Bride will be wearing her wedding dress, therefore it is
important to have a car with as much interior space as possible
and ensure that it is easy to get in and out of. Some companies
offer two-door cars with tip-up front seats. These are totally
unsuitable for wedding hire, this becomes all too
obvious when you inspect them and try getting in and out.
This
is particularly important if the wedding is being covered by
video, because if you have a car that if difficult to get in and
out of, it can make any bride, however agile, look clumsy and
ungainly, which can spoil the whole video.
If
you decide to book an open car, firstly check that it has a
proper hood, full windows and side screens, so you will not get
wet if it rains. Secondly and equally as important, check that
there is sufficient room for you to get out easily when the hood
is up, in case it is a wet day.

Some
companies undertake more than one wedding in an afternoon, with
the same car, this is all too often a recipe for disaster, with
brides left stranded at the church, or kept waiting at home for
the car to arrive to take them to the church.
|

This can easily be avoided by ensuring that when you
make your booking, the company gives you written confirmation it
will only undertake the one wedding per car, per morning or
afternoon and insist that the car remains with you throughout
the wedding.

Whilst
recommendations can be a very useful way of selecting the right
specialists for your wedding, it is very important to be
cautious and never take recommendations at face value, even when
coming from an apparently reputable source. Always satisfy
yourself as to a specialist’s competence and ability.
Unfortunately, there are always a few unscrupulous specialists
who will recommend others in full knowledge of their
inadequacies, simply because they are paid good commissions, or
have a concealed financial interest in the business they are
“highly recommending”.
However
well maintained, wedding cars cannot be totally immune from
breakdowns and accidents, so do ensure that the hire company you
choose always has adequate stand by cars available at all times.
